About Me:
I am a highschool aged artist who loves all forms of art.
I have been doing art since I was in preschool and have always enjoyed it.
I have worked with several media; traditional and crafty. While I paint, draw, and sculpt,
I also love sewing and crochet. I have many pets who I draw inspiration from
and who love to watch me make art. I also play a little guitar on the side.
Though I don't plan on having art as my main career,
I will definitely continue practicing and creating it for many years to come.
Artist Statement:
I appreciate detail and hidden meanings in a work of art. I feel
art is more effective when one discovers new meanings and subjects in
the piece the longer it is viewed. Art is meant to be open to interpretation and
has a different meaning for each individual observing it. I prefer my art to have a concealed
subject or deeper meaning that pertains to my personal experiences
as well as thoughts and thought process. Although others may not interpret
my art as the message I was portraying, I prefer it this way as it allows the audience
or viewer to personally connect and interpret the work in a way that is personal to them.
I work with multiple different media; my favorites
are polymer clay, acrylics, and colored pencil. Often times, I begin with meanings or ideas
I want to expand on in a work of art. I find symbolism or meaning that represents what I
want the work to express and write ideas and thoughts with
correlating symbolism. I begin conceptualizing my art into basic figures and subjects
and sketch multiple ideas, often adding notes. I then take pieces from
the sketches and make a rough sketch of how I want the final artwork
to look. Then, depending on the media, I go through several processes working
off of my sketch, tweaking things here and there. I always begin with the
foundation and slowly build up colors and details.
Then I add definition to the work of art.
This process often involves many layers and steps, but it creates work I can take pride in.
My art is meant to tell a story through symbolism; my common focal points
of dragons and animals play into this. I usually use dragons as the subject
due to their association with wisdom, power, and the elements. In the three works I did
over the summer of 2019, I had each dragon represent an important aspect of
life such as growth, infinity, and rhythm. Other works are made because they have meaning
to me and speak to me as the creator. This allows others to interpret
a work as they wish because everyone has different experiences.
Overall, my work usually has themes of rebirth and the circle of life as these themes are important to me.
Other works of mine had more playful elements and more of a thought out story
rather than just symbolism. Most of the ideas for my work come from
inspirationand stories from all around me.
These small inspirations are what allow me to grow as an artist.
